Naivasha Hortifair 2023 Launches: Horticultural Powerhouse Showcases Growth and Innovation

The Naivasha Hortifair 2023 took center stage on September 23rd and 24th at the Naivasha Sports Club, featuring the presence of Hon. Mithika Linturi, the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. This annual event stands as a pivotal platform for connecting farmers, exporters, and technology experts within the horticultural sector.

Kenya’s horticultural industry, a key driver of agricultural progress, was under the spotlight, boasting impressive achievements. It has raked in over Ksh. 147 billion in export earnings and an astounding quantity of 391.4 MT. These remarkable figures highlight the sector’s immense potential, calling for a concerted government commitment to its development.

Central areas of focus encompass heightened mechanization and an expansion of export capabilities, leveraging critical transportation infrastructure, including the recently upgraded Eldoret International Airport and seaports. Gratitude was extended to the event’s sponsors, and a call to action was issued to farmers to capitalize on this unique opportunity for collective industry advancement.

Hon. Mithika Linturi, the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, formally inaugurated Naivasha Hortifair 2023, emphasizing the critical role of horticulture as one of Kenya’s top foreign exchange earners. He commended industry players for their collaborative endeavors aimed at sector growth.

Distinguished attendees included Agriculture and Food Authority Chairman Hon. Cornelly Serem, as well as AFA Board members Lucy Njine and Jairus Ombui.
