Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi presented the prestigious farming champions trophy to FreshCrop management who emerged winners of the National Farmers Awards 2023 in the Large Commercial Farms category. The trophy was presented at the Nairobi International Trade Fair.
While awarding the trophy to Freshcrop’s Managing Director Chris Gasperi, and the other members of its management team, the Prime CS congratulated the company for not just its accomplishment in winning the trophy but also its excellence in the potato value chain.
FreshCrop is known for its role in the production of certified potato seeds in Kenya, and it is the company’s dedication to excellence and its innovation that has continued to contribute significantly to the agricultural landscape of the nation, more so in potato cultivation.
National Potato Council (NPCK) Chief Executive Officer Wachira Kaguongo congratulated FreshCrop, indicating that the award was a great achievement.
“This victory resonates profoundly within the potato community and the wider agricultural sector and necessitates applause and appreciation,” Mr. Kaguongo said.
The National Farmers Award is a remarkable initiative that embodies a robust Public Private Partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and the renowned agriculture inputs supplier, Elgon Kenya Limited.
The company has, over time, garnered many accolades from the government for its unwavering commitment to advancing agriculture, with the National Farmers Awards being one of its flagship initiatives.
The awards are a recognition of farmers in Kenya and an encouragement for individuals and organizations who are driving positive change in the agriculture sector.
It is an initiative that reaffirms the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in propelling Kenya’s agricultural industry to greater heights.
