Empowering Africa’s Fairtrade champions: Staff training strengthens ethical supply chains

Fairtrade Africa has launched a transformative two-day training program for staff across its Eastern and Central Africa Network (ECAN) and Southern Africa Network (SAN), led by certification experts FLOCERT. The sessions, running simultaneously, aim to deepen teams’ mastery of Fairtrade Standards, equipping them to better support producer organizations, streamline compliance, and safeguard the credibility of Fairtrade certification.

“Behind every Fairtrade label is a rigorous system built to protect farmers, ensure ethical trade, and champion sustainability,” a Fairtrade Africa spokesperson emphasized. “This training isn’t just about rules—it’s about empowering our teams to drive real change on the ground.”

The initiative follows a similar workshop held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, last week, underscoring a unified push to elevate Fairtrade practices continent-wide. By strengthening staff expertise, the organization aims to amplify its impact, ensuring producer communities receive sharper guidance, fairer opportunities, and stronger advocacy in global markets.

As global demand for ethical products grows, Fairtrade Africa’s investment in knowledge and collaboration signals a renewed commitment to building resilient, equitable supply chains—one training at a time.
