Makueni’s young farmers transform mangoes and bananas into economic gold
Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Wednesday visited Iviani Farm in Kikumini Muvau Ward, a thriving agribusiness that is setting the pace for youth-led agricultural transformation.
Iviani Farm, managed by enterprising agripreneurs Faith Mumo and Ben, has become a beacon of innovation in value addition, specializing in drying mangoes and bananas for both local and international markets. The farm not only boosts Makueni’s agricultural economy but also creates much-needed job opportunities for young people.
Impressed by the farm’s success, Governor Mutula lauded the duo’s efforts, describing their venture as a model for youth empowerment and agribusiness development. He emphasized the importance of value addition in increasing farmers’ incomes and positioning Makueni as a key player in agro-processing.
Accompanying the governor were County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Joyce Mutua and Chief Officers Japheth Kiminza and Dr. Victoria Kyalo. Their visit underscored the county’s commitment to supporting agribusiness initiatives that enhance food security and economic growth.
With Iviani Farm leading the way, Makueni’s young farmers are proving that agriculture is not just a livelihood but a thriving industry with limitless potential.
