Kenya and Jordan forge stronger trade ties to expand exports, empower farmers

Kenya Strengthens Trade Ties with Jordan to Boost Agricultural Exports and Support Local Farmers
In a strategic move to enhance economic relations, Kenya is setting its sights on increasing its exports to Jordan. The focus will be on high-demand agricultural products such as tea, coffee, avocados, macadamia nuts, and pineapples—key sectors that have the potential to significantly boost the livelihoods of Kenyan farmers.
This afternoon, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade & Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, held discussions with the Jordanian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Firas Khouri. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to strengthening trade relations, particularly with a focus on expanding the export of Kenyan agricultural products.
The talks centered on improving the flow of these goods, positioning Kenyan farmers to earn more income through increased market access. Both parties agreed to deepen ties between Kenya and Jordan to ensure smoother trade processes, making it easier for Kenyan farmers to access the Jordanian market.
The push for increased exports to Jordan is not just about growing trade volumes but also about creating more opportunities for local businesses. The expansion of Kenya’s agricultural exports will likely lead to the creation of more jobs, both in agriculture and in supporting industries such as packaging, transportation, and logistics.
For Kenya’s farmers, tapping into a wider market means greater financial stability. The increased demand from Jordan could lead to higher prices for these export products, boosting farm revenues and contributing to the broader economy.
Additionally, strengthening trade between Kenya and Jordan could pave the way for more comprehensive economic cooperation, benefiting other sectors like tourism, education, and technology.
The Kenyan government, led by Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui, is committed to opening new markets for Kenyan products and services. The collaboration with Jordan is expected to play a key role in realizing the vision of improved livelihoods for Kenyan farmers, greater support for local businesses, and a more robust economy
