The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is forging ahead with the Agricultural Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS 2019-2029), with a strong emphasis on digitalization, data utilization, and research. As part of these efforts, a new Digitization Strategy has been launched, prioritizing key use-cases to revolutionize the agricultural sector.
Central to this digital push is KilimoStat, a comprehensive platform that will provide access to over 100,000 agricultural datasets through the Ministry’s website. This initiative underscores the critical role of data in informed decision-making, strategic planning, and the overall transformation of agriculture in Kenya.
Developed by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, the Kenya Agricultural Observation Platform (KAOP) stands out as a successful digital tool within this strategy. KAOP offers farmers real-time weather forecasts by leveraging cloud sourcing, machine learning, and interactive models, enhancing their ability to make timely and informed decisions.
These advancements are expected to significantly impact the agricultural sector, driving efficiency, productivity, and sustainability through innovative digital solutions.
