The Board of Trustees of The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) would like to officially announce that Michael Sudarkasa, who over the past two and a half years has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of AFAP, submitted his resignation from his leadership role in AFAP, effective Friday, 22 November 2024, and will return to lead Africa Business Group (ABG).
Michael has agreed to support AFAP in this transition period as requested.
The Board of Trustees has assumed executive oversight of AFAP and its programs, and Deputy CEO, Joseph Mwangangi, will assume administrative day-to-day leadership of the organization.
“On behalf of the AFAP Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Mr. Sudarkasa for his service to the organization. When Michael took on the role of CEO in May of 2022, AFAP faced a challenging landscape as we struggled with the fallout of COVID and an equally challenging global fertilizer market exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, which strained global development resources. Michael did an admirable job mobilizing support, raising AFAP’s profile, helping strengthen its country teams, and building donor and other partnerships during a very difficult time”, says AFAP Board of Trustees, Chairman Nteranya Sanginga
As AFAP has worked closely with the ABG, on a variety of initiatives since 2014, AFAP and the Board of Trustees look forward to continued future collaboration with the ABG particularly on initiatives that will further AFAP’s mission of building African agricultural input markets to increase food security on the continent.
The Board of Trustees will engage an executive recruitment firm to conduct a search for an outstanding candidate to lead AFAP as its next President and CEO.
